Since the early 2000's, Philip Buchanan (vocals), Steve "Tater" Hensley (bass), and Todd Johnston (drums) from the Hodads have been playing as Buckofive (or Buck-0-Five or Buck O’Five or, for a little while, Suckerpunch), with others on guitar and keyboards, including Eric Wilson, Dale Ritchey, Jim Wright, Paul Sieg, Jack Browning, Rick Richards (Georgia Satellites), and Jonny Daly (Right As Rain, Drag The River). Philip released 3 albums of Buckofive recordings in 2023 and 1 more in early 2024. There may be more "in the vault".
In 2023, Dale Ritchey (guitar) from the Hodads released an EP by The Dangleleros, a band he put together to record his original songs in the studio. In the group were Philip Buchanan from the Hodads (vocals), Jeff Bakos (bass), Freddy McNeal (guitar), Mike The Hammer (drums), and Meek (backing vocals).
In 2020, Philip Buchanan (vocals) from the Hodads released the single "All American" under his own name. Playing on the song were Jack Browning (guitar) and John Rosser (bass, drums), with backing vocals by Paul Sieg, Ali Buchanan, and Sydney Buchanan.
After the Hodads disbanded, Philip & Todd started the Road Hawgs, who put out 2 great southern rock albums — What You See Is What You Get! (1995) and Left Turn At Albuquerque (1997). Also in the Road Hawgs were Jim Wright (guitar), Joe Aukofer (guitar), and Sean Miller (bass).
Crawdaddy: "I think of all these bands with mostly former Hodads members as the "Hodads Family" of bands — Hodads, Fontanels, Road Hawgs, Buckofive, Crawdad Crash, The Dangleleros, Philip Buchanan. They're all different, but they're all rock & roll. Putting all their songs together makes a pretty good playlist, which I did on Spotify and YouTube."
